Will Agni Link support my CAD and ERP systems?

Elmo Solutions’ Agni Link is currently available as an add-in to the following platforms:

CAD/PDM/PLM applications

ERP Integrations

Planned ERP Integrations

Agni Link can also be easily and cost-effectively adapted to virtually any CAD, PDM, PLM or ERP systems. Click here to inquire about availability for other applications that may require CAD/PDM/PLM data integration.

How easily can Agni Link be adapted to our existing business process?

Very, very easily. Using the Agni Link Configuration Wizard, customers can reconfigure, add or remove CAD-ERP mappings at will, thus allowing total freedom in the definition of their integration. Of course, it is also possible to save a set of different configurations that will be selected depending on which business process is the object of the current integration, or what type of user (designer, reviewer, production manager, etc.) needs the integration.

When is the best time to deploy CAD-ERP integration?

Agni Link can be deployed at any time, either during, after or, even better yet, prior to the implementation of the ERP system. The best possible time to implement the integration is right from the beginning. That strategy ensures maximization of the ROI (Return On Investment) by bringing the benefits of CAD-ERP integration as early as possible in the implementation process.

This is especially true in the context of Elmo Solutions’ BigBangBoMs Program, which can translate into dramatic savings during the data initialization phase of an ERP implementation by harvesting all the available CAD data available in the customer’s environment, and bringing it, duly cleaned up and validated, into the ERP system. All for only a fraction of the cost of manually entering/importing CAD data.

Can Agni Link be customized once deployed?

Absolutely. It is possible to custom-tailor, not only at the customer’s level, but even at the end-user’s level, as well as at the business process level, to completely change the way Agni Link maps and processes integrated CAD and ERP data. And of course, this can be done at any time after Agni Link is deployed.

Do I need to turn to Elmo Solutions every time I need to customize my CAD-ERP integration system?

Absolutely not.  With the Agni Link Configuration Builder,  Agni Link customers can to custom-tailor their Agni Link configuration.  They can create as many customized configurations as needed, thus making it possible to create custom mappings based on end-user’s roles and responsibilities in the customer’s business process.

My ERP application is a custom-built, in-house application. Is Agni Link a good fit?

Definitely. An Agni Link custom configuration can be built for virtually any business system, either off-the-shelf or custom-built.

Of course, we want integration for Parts and Bills of Materials,  but also for jobs, quotes and floor plans. Can Agni Link handle those?

Absolutely. Actually, if a data object can be found in a CAD document, it can be translated as virtually anything into a business system, including, but not limited to:

  • Estimating
  • Jobs
  • Sales Quotes
  • Facility management data
  • Business Process Management (BPM) data
  • Work Orders
  • Production Orders
  • Production Schedules
  • Product Catalogs
  • Product Configurations
  • Parts Catalogs
  • Technical Documentation
  • Supply Chain data
  • Document Management
  • CRM data

There are 2 types of links to integrate CAD and ERP data: first, through the use of a live, bidirectional link, and second, using an export/import scheme. Why has Elmo Solutions dropped the latter of the two approaches?

Although both methods have their respective merits, we found that the bidirectional approach using a 100% off-the-shelf solution with moderate customer-modifiable customization usually resulted in a significantly lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), compared to a unidirectional, 100% custom solution, mostly due to:

  • Export/import scheme brings a second-class data integration:

    • less reliable
    • more error-prone
    • deferred updating of ERP data
  • Intensive customer-specific customization that has to be contracted out to the solution vendor
  • Significantly higher implementation costs
  • Higher maintenance costs arising from changes in customer’s needs (must involve solution vendor every time changes must be made to the custom application)

In our relentless quest to offer our customers the best bang for the buck, Elmo Solutions has made a decision to discontinue the use of the export/import unidirectional scheme, in favor of the live, bidirectional approach.

To what extent is Agni Link bidirectional?

Bidirectionality is a multi-layered thing. In a nutshell, here are the key layers in Agni Link’s bidirectionality:

  • Looking up values that are acceptable to ERP system, and restricts entries to those values, thus ensuring that anything sent to the ERP system has been properly validated
  • Merging both ERP and CAD data into one common data object, which is presented to the engineering user in the form of the Integration Dashboard
  • Updating data (customer-configurable on a mapping-by-mapping-basis) to CAD and/ERP applications at the end of the process

Whoch application is the master of the integration process?

The integration process is normally triggered by the CAD, PDM or PLM application. However, customers can determine how data is going to be merged and updated on a mapping-by-mapping basis. For example, you may decide that:

  • If a discrepancy is found between the CAD and ERP descriptions, the ERP description will be used
  • Costing information will be updated in ERP, but not in CAD
  • The Part Number will be generated automatically by the ERP system
  • etc.

How do I know that my data is OK and in sync?

When all errors have disappeared in the Integration Dashboard, which will show it visually in a very clear way. By the way, there is a very clever feature in Agni Link that will allow you to display in the Integration Dashboard only those Bill of Material Items that are in error.

Another option is to simply launch the integration process, and try to complete the integration. If no error was raised by Agni Link, then you’re good to go. It is as simple as that.

What are the prerequisites (required  information) in the CAD, PDM or PLM application to make sure that the integration will work?

The only requirement is that each data object (field) in the CAD/PDM/PLM application:

  • has a counterpart mapped in ERP, or
  • is used in an Agni Link formula (expression)

What is the data format used by Agni Link?

Bear in mind that Agni Link creates a real-time bridge between both environments. Consequently, no intermediate transfer file is required and, as such,  Agni Link uses the native format of the PDM and ERP applications.

How do we ensure that there is no data duplication?

Duplications can be easily prevented by using:

  • Look-ups, to find pre-existing components in the ERP system
  • Green cells in the Agni Link Integration Dashboard, which will indicate that a Part or Bill of Materials is about to be created

How many customers does Elmo Solutions have?

We do not normally disclose that kind of information.  One thing we can tell you is that Elmo Solutions has users in more than 50 countries.

How are implementation projects driven?

Elmo Solutions has customers on 5 continents, and most initial implementation, as well as ongoing, support services are promptly delivered remotely.  All that is required form the customer is a secure remote access software.  We recommend AeroAdmin.

On-site implementations, although rarely required, are available as an option. Travel and expenses will then apply.
